As the AVP of Communications, you will shape and elevate UNFCU’s communications strategy with a strong focus on internal engagement. You will assess current practices and channels, develop a cohesive and forward-looking communications framework, and lead initiatives that strengthen clarity, connection, and alignment across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, you will partner closely with Human Resources, Executive Operations, IT, and other key stakeholders. You will also oversee external agencies and freelance writers to ensure all communications reflect and advance the Credit Union’s mission, culture, and strategic goals.

 

This position is hybrid.


NYC Salary Range: $159,030 - $250,000 annually: compensation is commensurate to geographic location.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate current communication channels and practices, identify opportunities, and lead improvements.
  • Develop and execute a unified communications strategy that enhances internal engagement, transparency, and alignment with organizational values.
  • Counsel the CEO and senior leaders on messaging to ensure clarity, consistency, and a cohesive organizational voice.
  • Direct content creation across key channels, including email, video, digital screens, the intranet, town halls, and major internal events.
  • Oversee corporate and external communications initiatives—such as the annual report, AGM, executive visibility, and crisis communications—while managing external agencies and freelance support.
  • Measure communication effectiveness through data and feedback, refining strategies while ensuring confidentiality, compliance, and data-protection standards.

What we're seeking

 

  • 15+ years of relevant experience with deep expertise in developing and executing internal communications strategies.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field; financial services experience strongly preferred.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, engaging, and audience-specific messaging.

  • Strong executive presence and proven success advising senior leaders on communication needs and messaging.

  • Skilled in project and workflow management, with experience using Microsoft 365 and tools like Asana, Monday.com, or Workfront.

  • Effective cross-functional collaborator with experience using CMS or intranet platforms and comfort managing related technical elements.

  • Analytical, discreet, and highly professional, with the ability to interpret engagement data and build trusted relationships across the organization.
