  • Overview

    Collaborate with designated business areas to tactically address management and employee needs, including providing counsel on, and executing activities related to, performance management, employment policies, employee engagement and reward, recognition and employee relations. Ensure that employee performance is assessed fairly across the organization and that business leaders adhere to organizational policies and procedures in the execution of day-to-day business activities and employee interactions. Provide prompt and consistent support and guidance, as well as effective problem resolution, to designated business areas. Work collaboratively with HR colleagues and management to efficiently implement, administer, and deliver global talent management programs and processes, ensuring the achievement of goals, strategy and business needs.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage execution of performance management strategy through key processes related to planning, performance snapshots, coaching and rewards. Support compensation philosophy and advise management on pay practices. Ensure alignment, pay equity, meritocracy and high quality feedback and coaching. Create salary action forms in accordance with Salary Administration guidelines. Partner with management to design and implement plans to drive and improve performance.
    • Counsel staff and management regarding employee inquiries and ensure consistent interpretation and application of employment policy. Provide actionable solutions for inquiries and conduct formal investigations when necessary. Coach management in facilitation of constructive dialogue and resolution of workplace conflict. Ensure corrective strategies help to foster trust and accountability. Mitigate risk to the organization by ensuring an amenable and progressive disciplinary action process.
    • Facilitate comprehensive experience discussions and leverage insights to improve retention efforts. Contribute to employee engagement activities including biennial surveys and impact planning.
    • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to ensure a satisfactory onboarding experience for new hires and manage transition in cooperation with hiring manager. Effectively resolve issues introduced during onboarding. Compose and update job descriptions.
    • Partner with Talent Development to initiate and/or support employee development plans and related activities. Participate in workforce planning with designated business areas.
    • Support HR Management and business leaders with the execution of talent programs and/or procedures to enhance the employee experience.
    • Support designated business areas through change and with teambuilding initiatives. Build and maintain productive working relationships across the organization. Be present for designated business areas by participating in departmental activities and meetings.
    • Work with Corporate Learning team to design and deliver training programs if assigned.
    • Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations in all UNFCU locations. Ensure satisfactory record keeping by maintaining adequate documentation and filing.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    TYPE & AMOUNT OF EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study and 5-7 years of progressive corporate Human Resources experience

     

    TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Knowledge of employment laws, payroll and compensation practices
    • Computer proficiency, with intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
    • Working knowledge of HRIS, LMS and related reporting

     

    BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Detail orientation and service orientation
    • Professional communication skills, both verbal and written; comfortability with occasional public speaking
    • Ability to manage relationships at all levels throughout the organization

    • Professional appearance and a willingness to work flexible hours

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

    • Standard office conditions
    • Must be willing to travel periodically to other local NYC offices, as well as offices in Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Suffolk County, Long Island

     

    In addition to any specific job requirements in connection with Bank Secrecy Act and/or OFAC (BSA), employee must (i) be aware of BSA matters commensurate with the position; (ii) report any suspicious activity to the manager or compliance department; and (iii) satisfactorily complete any required BSA training.
